Passenger vehicle (PV) dispatches to dealers in January surpassed previous months as demand momentum continued into the new year. The industry recorded a 14% year-on-year (y-o-y) increase to 394,571 units during the reporting month, according to data shared by Maruti Suzuki.
FAME slows down, auto PLI in fast lane
New Delhi: The government slashed the allocation for FAME, its umbrella scheme for a switch of electric mobility, by 44% for FY25 even as it hiked the corpus for the production linked incentive scheme for autos by over seven times.
Passenger vehicles, two-wheelers domestic sales continue momentum in January
New Delhi: The automobile industry reported positive wholesale (dispatches to dealers) in the passenger vehicles (PVs) and two-wheelers segments in January on year-on-year (y-o-y) basis, but commercial vehicle (CV) segment continued to record decline in sales during the month. In the PV segment, Maruti Suzuki India reported a growth of 13.20 per cent to 1,66,802 units in its domestic sales during the month compared with 1,47,348 units in the corresponding month last year. Similarly, the second largest PV manufacturer Hyundai Motor India sold 57,115 units, a growth of 14 per cent against 50,106 units in January 2023.  
Tata Motors sales up 6% to 84,276 units in Jan’24
New Delhi: Tata Motors’ sales in the domestic and international market for January 2024 stood at 86,125 vehicles, compared to 81,069 units during January 2023. Tata Motors reported a 6% increase in its total domestic sales to 84,276 units in January 2024, compared to 79,6817 units in the same month a year ago.
Indians purchased over 21 crore vehicles in last 10 years: President Droupadi Murmu
Indians purchased more than 21 crore vehicles in the last decade as compared to 13 crore vehicles in the 10 years before 2014, President Droupadi Murmu said on Wednesday. Sales of electric vehicles in the country have also increased multi-fold, she said in her first address to a joint sitting of the two Houses in the new Parliament building.

New Delhi: Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M Ltd.), one of India’s leading automotive companies, Thursday announced that its overall auto sales for the month of January 2024 stood at 73,944 vehicles, a growth of 15%, including exports.

In the Utility Vehicles segment, Mahindra sold 43,068 vehicles in the domestic market, a growth of 31% and overall, 43,866 vehicles, including exports. The domestic sales for Commercial Vehicles stood at 23,481.

According to Veejay Nakra, President, Automotive Division, M&M Ltd., “In January, we sold a total of 43,068 SUVs, a healthy 31% growth and total 73,944 vehicles, a 15% growth over last year. We began the year with the launch of 2024 XUV700, with a whole host of new features that elevates comfort, tech and sophistication to the next level. Honouring the spirit of ‘Viksit Bharat’ this Republic Day, we flagged off the “Drivers of Change” initiative that honours women achievers across various fields and highlight their role as a driving force in India's progression towards an advanced and inclusive society.”

In what could be a major boost to the financials of manufacturers and component makers, today’s interim budget has allocated Rs 3,500 crore towards the production-linked incentive scheme for automobiles and components for the next financial year. The disbursement of incentives under the scheme will start in 2024-25.
FAME subsidy to continue, receives Rs 2,671 crore boost

In the interim budget announced today, the government has allocated Rs 2,671 crore for the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid and) Electric Vehicle (FAME) scheme for the current financial year. As per the budget documents, the revised estimate of allocation for the FAME scheme in the next financial year is Rs 4,807 crore, down from the earlier budget estimate of Rs 5,172 crore.

Following what was one of the most aggressive product offensives by Maruti Suzuki in the last few years, the carmaker is gearing up for an even more audacious goal with what it calls Vision 3.0. The plan envisages Maruti Suzuki doubling production capacity to four million units and tripling exports from India in the next eight years, but crucially, by the end of the decade, it intends to expand the number of models in its portfolio from 17 to 28.
