Address basic problems in insurance industry
The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) notified the Insurance Product Regulations 2024 on March 20. The notification lays out a roadmap for issuing insurance products — be it life, non-life or health insurance. The notification supersedes a number of existing insurance product regulations.
IRDAI marks 25th anniversary with slew of regulatory reforms
As the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) enters the Silver Jubilee year on Friday, the regulator is busy creating a smooth ground for a slew of regulatory reforms announced in March that come into effect from the current financial year. This is even as the industry players are also buckling up to play their part.

HDFC Life Q4 Results: Profit up 13.7% YoY at Rs 411.64 crore, beats estimates
Private sector insurer HDFC Life Insurance on Thursday reported its fiscal fourth quarter profit at Rs 411.64 crore, up 13.7 per cent in comparison to Rs 361.97 crore during the same period last year, surpassing market expectations. HDFC Life was expected to report 6.1 per cent growth in profit at Rs 382.1 crore. The net premium income for the quarter ended March 31, 2024 stood at Rs 20,533.71 crore, up 5.5 per cent as against Rs 19468.60 crore during the same quarter last year.

Passive funds lose charm amid falling returns
ET Intelligence group: Investors’ interest in passive products has waned over the past year due to lower returns amid regulatory changes after showing a strong traction in the previous year. The 12-month cumulative flow in the passive funds dropped to a 33-month low of Rs 49,846 crore in March 2024, the data from the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) showed. The sample includes exchanged traded funds (ETFs) and index funds. The inflow was Rs 1,55,197 crore in the year-ago month.The peak cumulative flow in the passive funds was Rs 1.6 lakh crore in October 2022. In March 2024, passive funds attracted an inflow of Rs 3,644 crore, half of the last one-year average.
