Home sales rise 9% year-on-year in Q1 2024, office leasing up 43%: report
Mumbai: The first quarter of 2024 saw a 9 per cent rise in home sales at 86,345 units across top eight cities in India, while office leasing rose 43 per cent to 16.2 million square feet, according to Knight Frank India’s quarterly update on the sector. India is one of the few sweet spots for the real estate sector, while global conditions are still challenging and it is a slow path to recovery, Knight Frank said in its update.

Realty players plan new hotels to shore up revenues

Mumba: Over half a  dozen top property developers, including Tata Realty& Infrastructure, Oberoi Realty, Prestige Estates , Ambuja Neotia Group and Panchshil Realty, are looking to build new hotels and also manage global hospitality brands. The business can work as a hedge against the residential segment, which is cyclical. Eastern India-based Merlin Group on Thursday announced a partnership with Indian Hotels (IHCL) for the IBIZA resort near Joka, in Kolkata.The resort will now operate under IHCL's SeleQtions brand as "IBIZA— an IHCL SeleQtions",Kolkata.

NHAI cuts 7,575 trees for Delhi-Dehradun Expressway amid environmental concerns, assures planting 1.76 lakh trees
Amid concerns over environmental conservation, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) revealed that a staggering 7,575 trees have been felled along a nearly 16-km stretch of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway. Responding to a query filed under the Right To Information (RTI) Act by Noida-based social activist Amit Gupta, NHAI disclosed that of these trees, 4,983 were axed in Uttarakhand, while 2,592 were in Uttar Pradesh.

Railway Ministry rings alarm bells! Reviews train operation changes post surge in accidents, CCRS calls for action
The Railway Ministry wants to know what the different railway zones think about the recent changes in how trains operate. This inquiry comes after the Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety (CCRS) advised against these changes, a PTI report said. The CCRS highlighted that there has been a rise in serious accidents and recommended withdrawing the amendments.

Cochin Port registers 3% growth with highest cargo traffic of 36.32 mt in FY24
Kochi: Cochin Port registered a three per cent growth in its cargo throughput of 36.32 million tonnes during FY24. A press statement from the port authority claimed that the achieved figure is also the highest cargo traffic recorded at the port. Out of the total cargo handled, liquid bulk cargo and containers constituted the majority . Dry bulk (3 per cent) and break bulk cargo (1 per cent) comprised the remaining portion of the cargo. The annual traffic was led by an impressive growth of 8.57 per cent in liquid bulk cargo (24.83 million tonnes), driven mainly by crude, petroleum products, and liquefied natural gas (LNG).
